Sir,

With reference to your letters of the 26th February,

(21) (F.969/60/10) and 5th March (F.1454/60/10) regarding

M. Cambon's enquiry about the restrictions governing the

export of arms to China, I am directed by the Board of Trade

to state, for the information of Secretary Sir John Simon,

that they agree that this enquiry affords a suitable

opportunity for informing the French and United States

Governments of the result of the enquiries which

His Majesty's Government have made of other Governments in

this matter.

The Board also concur in the terms of the Note and of

the Despatch which it is proposed to address to M. Corbin

and Sir Ronald Lindsay respectively, but they suggest that

paragraph 2 of the Note to the French Ambassador should

contain a reference to the reply which was received from

the Polish Government. The reply of that Government,

331 according to Mr. Aveling's telegram (No.19 Saving) of

27th August last, was to the effect that they are prepared
